1. Talk to people
This is one of the first times you will be around other new students at UK and it’s the perfect time for you to start making friends! Don’t be afraid to talk to other students while you’re at your “see blue.” U Orientation. You can start out with simple questions like “where are you from,” “what’s your major,” and “where will you be living?” Before you know it, you may have found your best friend!
There are a ton of presentations during orientation and you’ll find out that there’s not enough time to attend all the ones you want to. One great strategy is for you and your family to split up and attend different presentations, that way you are taking advantage of all the information UK has to offer!
3. Visit the tables
In between the presentations there is tabling out in the hallway of White Hall. Make sure you visit these tables and meet the awesome people that are at them! You can learn a lot about campus organizations and life at UK just by stopping and having a conversation with these people. A lot of them will be upperclassmen students, so they are great to talk to about UK and what your first year will be like.
Don’t be afraid to ask your UKonnect leader any questions you may have during your two days on campus. These students have a ton of knowledge about UK and your transition to college, and can be a huge asset to you during your orientation. They are there to help you and WANT you to ask questions, so do it! You’ll be glad you did!
On the first day of orientation, you’ll hear a presentation about The Blueprint and how important it is to your first year on campus. Make sure you listen closely to this presentation, because it will make your first year one of the best years of your life!
Have a great time at orientation, and welcome to the Big Blue Nation!
