Welcome to UK’s campus! When your first day is over and your room is finally decorated with personal touches and you have accomplished the meet and greet with your new roommate - you will probably be wondering what to do next. Lucky for you, The K Book staff has created a list of tips to make your first night in your residence hall everything it should be for a new Wildcat!
1. Avoid staying on the phone with your parents.
Of course, it is okay to call to check-in and let them know you have settled into your new home, but don’t let the conversation last too long. It’s easy to stay inside the safety of your own room and stay on the phone with mom and dad. Tip: Leave the phone for a while. You have an entire campus to start discovering! Grab a new friend and start exploring.

2. Get to know your roommate.
We are humans, which means we have quirky qualities and our own individual way of how we live. Take some time your first night to get to know your roommate and exchange the qualities between one another you think should be known now that you will be living together. This new information will help avoid issues and help to make compromises ahead of time.

3. Don’t be afraid to meet people.
The first night in your residence hall is when you will probably want to meet everyone. Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with the shy blonde that hangs out in the lobby or your funny neighbors who live three rooms down. You’ll be surprised how the friendships you make the first night will last all through college and maybe even a lifetime.

4. Find your favorite spot to eat. You’ll soon find out that UK has awesome spots to eat both on and off campus. Now that you’ve made some friends, ask if a couple of people want to check out some of the places around campus to get some dinner. You can find out whether you will be loyal to Chipotle or Qdoba make your way to the popular campus diner, Tolly-Ho! |
